![]() Considering all the taunts and interaction leading up to the bridge, I was expecting some great threats, or at the very absolute least a parting shot after the hacker finishes her off. The whole last level to Shock1 was fine with me in terms of design, but I was somewhat surprised that SHODAN said absolutely nothing to me the entire time. I have to admit, the endings to both System Shocks disappointed me somewhat, with the ending to Shock2 being the greater offender. (And, given a talented musician, it's even a fairly practical thing to do.) Films have been doing this for years and years (admittedly sometimes the music is crap, so it seems odd that almost no games have followed suit. It was immensely satisfying just sitting back and enjoying a reward that seemed really substantial. The ending music was really good, and continued LONG after the movie sequence finished, as the credits rolled. There _was_ an ending cinematic - there were many such sequences throughout the game, so this was to be expected - but what MADE the ending was the music. Nowadays, I've seen it so many times that it generally seems right, but I definitely know where you're coming from.Īs a side note, one of the best game endings I ever experienced was for Archimedean Dynasty. (Sadly, game endings do often seem to suffer in this way.) I wish the cinematic was longer, but time or space constraints may simply have made this impossible. (OTOH, the other cspace opponents remain strong, so there would still seem to be some discrepancy there.) SHODAN is a little weak in the end, but remember that you've gradually crippled her throughout the game, through destroying the CPU nodes. ![]() And given that it was in cyberspace, the way it plays out seems appropriate as well, given the rules that you've come to learn through the game. well, I've always loved Shock's cyberspace, and I felt it was completely appropriate that that as where the last confrontation would take place. ![]() And perhaps a message from SHODAN after you breach each of the doors to the bridge would have worked well.Īs for the 'final battle'. the ending *is* extremely abrupt, and awfully brief. ![]() The first time I completed the game I felt much the same. ![]()
